Losing An Angel

"Because I could not stop for death,
he kindly stopped for me.
The carriage held but just
ourselves and immortality"

Emily Dickinson…

Welcome to Losing An Angel.

This site is dedicated to the memory of our special son, Nathan Sharkey, who died tragically aged 6 years during the summer of 2008.

The incomprehensible loss of Nathan is something that has left us spinning. Losing a gravitational centre, a hub that gave focus for a child who's needs were the fabric of our day to day life. The loss of a child not only affects the immediate family but the wider family circle and the complete support system that is made up by friends and professionals alike. As a special needs child Nathan bestowed upon us, a unique perspective on life, an experience that is unique to every parent of such gifted children.

As we clutch at each little memory of life with our children we remember the good and bad times and dream of the things that were yet to come. We look around us in anger at the world for the cruelty it imposes upon us and our children but we should always look for that glimmer of light in our kaleidoscope of nightmares and remember that life is not a sentence but an opportunity to express our uniqueness and celebrate the time we have together.
